Pray for America's Families

By Dennis Rainey FamilyLife

Many Americans can remember a time when our families were guided by biblical principles. Even those who didn’t know Christ as their Savior still believed in a standard of morality based on the Bible.

But life has a way of editing the truth of Scripture, and the biblical chain of one generation passing its godly values to the next has grown very weak.

It’s no secret that our culture has drifted from its moral foundation. We are now at a crossroads in America: Will we, as a nation, stand for truth about marriage and parenting? Or, will we set truth aside for the expediency of life?

The Time has Come
The time has come for you and me to confront our indifference, our lethargy, our pride, our disobedience, and to join the ranks of those who will earnestly pray and beseech Almighty God to revive our families. May we once again know, apply, and experience God’s truth in our homes.
Knowing God’s truth means learning the biblical blueprints for marriage, family … and life. Today, the changing philosophies of man are colliding with the ageless truth of Scripture.
Applying God’s truth requires a concerted effort to integrate His blueprints into our daily lives. As we begin to measure our attitudes and actions against the yardstick of God’s Word, we choose to believe that His way is best. We follow His design for marriage and parenting because His truth does not change.

Experiencing God’s truth in our homes occurs as we continually apply His Word and base our decisions upon the unalterable standard of Scripture. The result? Peace, harmony, and hope.
Knowing, applying, and experiencing God’s Word leads us to embrace it as our foundation. And as individuals grow in their convictions, the natural result will be proclamation. May we again be a nation comprised of families who proclaim truth—God’s truth.

A Call to Prayer
We are told in 2 Chronicles 7:14, if “My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Father, help us not to take the easy way out in our marriages when every voice around us screams: “Compromise! Surrender!”
Help us look to You when marriage is hard and parenting is even harder.
Call us as individuals … as a nation of families … to stand for truth—Your truth.
As we return to our knees in prayer, may the Lord restore the soul of America—for the sake of our children and grandchildren—for the glory of God.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,' recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. 'It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.'

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for all of us,' he said. 'They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back.'
